My story.

I have a background in architecture, but my passion for photography was so strong that I decided to start from scratch with a camera in my hands fifteen years ago. Since then, I have traveled the world and had a chance to photograph over 200 weddings in more than 20 different countries.

My approach to work was always very personal - many of my clients became my friends, and many of my friends became my clients.

I'm not too fond of cold weather (but I enjoy working in Iceland) and love the Mediterranean - that's why I found my second home on one of the beautiful Croatian Islands.

Besides wedding photography, I'm also active as an advertising and lifestyle photographer (you can check my non-wedding work at matejkmetstudio.com).

My work.

During the last 15 years of wedding photography, I have learned that nothing is more important than staying true, keeping things relaxed, and allowing clients to enjoy their big day with friends and families as much as possible.

In my work, I combine a discreet photojournalistic approach with capturing relaxed and natural-looking portraits.

I love simplicity, and my significant strength is the creative use of all kinds of natural and available light. This allows me to work quickly and capture the wedding's authentic atmosphere without too much directing and arranging.

Destination weddings.

I'm based between Split/Prague/Bratislava, but my work is spread all over Europe. If you like my style - don’t hesitate to contact me - I love visiting new places, and I’ll come anywhere to document your big day.

My previous destinations include: New York City, Hawaii, Rio de Janeiro, Beirut, Lake Como, Provence, Mykonos, Paris, Netherlands, Norway, Salzburg, Belgium, Ireland, UK and more.

Upcoming (2024) destinations:
Croatia, Iceland, Tuscany, Rome, Prague, Amsterdam & more to come.

FAQs.

  • My candid style and many years of experience allow me to work quickly and quietly without missing any critical moments.

Unless it is a special request, a VIP, or a large wedding, I prefer working alone (with more than 180 guests). Working in this manner helps me to remain 'invisible' while capturing more intimate moments with the family and guests.

  • I work with a professional line of Canon and Leica cameras.

Although photography is mainly about the photographer's eye and light, a good and reliable camera is essential when documenting life events that cannot be repeated.

I always have backup gear in the bag and take special care to back up all captured material.

  • Sure! You won't find them in my portfolio, but I understand that these images are as important as some epic portrait shots and often end up framed in many homes.

I photograph them similarly to the rest of the wedding day - keeping it relaxed, quick, and fun!

  • Besides color corrections, I also ensure that everybody in my photos will look great. I take special care of every single image, including retouching if needed. However, I am very carful that all such interventions are invisible to the viewer and that the retouching (and the resulting shots) looks as natural as possible.

  • Luckily, during my 15 years in wedding photography, this has never happened to me.

However, I'm part of strong community of local & international wedding photographers. We share our experiences, meet regularly at conferences worldwide, learn from one another, party together, and help each other when something like this happens.

In such a scenario, I'll do my best to provide a substitute photographer whose values and visual style are as close to mine as possible.

  • If you find my work interesting, let's arrange a video call where you can get to know me a little better and make sure I am the right fit for your wedding.

After that, a 25% deposit and signed contract are required to get your date on my calendar.

  • Culling & editing the first selection of images takes me about 10 to 15 work days. This is when you'll receive the online gallery link with the first 100 best images representing the atmosphere and all the most critical moments of your big day.

In another 4 to 6 weeks, you'll receive the complete gallery (with another 350-500 remaining images) followed by a selection of the best 100 prints (in larger 15x21cm format) delivered in a beautiful custom-made box.

There are also plenty of upgrade options, including folio-boxes, luxury photo-books, etc.

  • Besides weddings, I'm also active as an advertising & lifestyle photographer. The combination of these different industries brings me new insight, inspiration and keeps me far from the stereotype.
